With Valentine’s Day just barely more than a month away, I had to share these adorable hearts Becky who blogs at Art & Illumination made. They were featured in a recent issue of the magazine, Somerset Studio Gallery.
Becky doesn’t have a tutorial on her blog but with just a little sewing, you’ll find these a lot of fun to make.
To make your denim hearts, just trace out a heart shape on the wrong side of your denim fabric, making the heart a little bigger than you will want your heart to be when finished. (You’ll need to do this twice to make both sides of your heart.)
Cut your hearts out, then stitch them together with the right sides of the denim fabric together. Leave a small opening so you can turn the heart right side out. A trick they taught us for turning small items inside out in Home Ec is to use the eraser end of a pencil to push the fabric through and out the hole.
Once you have your fabric turned inside out, stuff it with poly-fil available in any fabric or hobby store, then hand stitch the small opening shut. Embellish your heart with buttons, ribbon, messages, paint, whatever your little “heart” desires. Pun intended. ♥
Tip: You may find it easier to embellish or decorate your heart before stuffing it and stitching it closed.
